A 15-year-old boy was arrested in Pyrgos, western Greece, after being accused of abusing his dog in the courtyard of the Church of Agia Kyriaki on Monday night, August 31.
According to eyewitness complaints to police, the teenager repeatedly put the dog inside a trash bin and beat it, frightening the animal. He then took the dog out of the bin and continued hitting it.
Other minors who were at the scene recorded the incident on their mobile phones.
Police officers arrived at the church after the incident was reported and arrested the 15-year-old.
The teenager was later released following an oral order from a prosecutor.
