Two serious accidents resulting in injured riders of e-scooters were reported in Greece over the past 24 hours, with all four people involved identified as minors.
In one case, a 17-year-old teen girl was seriously injured in the northwest city of Grevena. The latter sustain a head injury and was hospitalized in critical condition at a Thessaloniki-area hospital’s ICU.
The teen was riding atop an e-scooter with her 15-year-old cousin when the motorized two-wheeler overturned on the 3rd kilometer of the old national highway.
The second incident involving an electric kick scooter occurred in the extreme northeast city of Alexandroupolis, when the two riders suddenly veered into a one-way street and collided with an ongoing car. Both minors were thrown into the air from the impact but luckily sustained only minor injuries.
The mushrooming use of the specific type of scooters, which are essentially an electric-powered skateboard with larger wheels, a steering column and brakes, has been accompanied by traffic accidents and concerns over their use along main thoroughfares and urban centers.
