Two sheepdogs that had been trapped on outcrops within the Olynthios River in Halkidiki of northern Greece, whose waters had swelled following heavy rainfall, were rescued after a mobilization of local citizens and authorities.
The two large canines were spotted by a passerby, who immediately informed a veterinarian in the nearby town of Polygyros. Municipal services were then mobilized for the rescue operation, with assistance from the fire brigade.
The dogs were safely freed and returned to their familiar environment.
The municipality of Polygyros subsequently posted a video of the rescue operation on its social media accounts, highlighted the importance of the immediate response and cooperation in emergency situations, as well as the need to care for and protect animal welfare.
