A 24-year-old woman is in critical condition and remains intubated in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Ioannina after a serious incident involving her 29-year-old partner in Igoumenitsa, northwestern Greece.

The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and violations of Greece’s traffic code following the incident, which occurred late Monday night, August 31, after an argument between the couple.

According to Greek police, the 29-year-old accelerated his vehicle while the woman was on the hood. She fell from the vehicle and suffered severe head injuries.

Police said that after his arrest, the man underwent an alcohol test, which showed that he had been under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

Woman remains in intensive care

The 24-year-old was initially taken by ambulance to Filiates General Hospital before being transferred to the University General Hospital of Ioannina.

She suffered severe traumatic brain injuries and remains intubated in the intensive care unit in critical condition.

The 29-year-old is expected to appear before a prosecutor in connection with the case.
