27 Greeks Safe After Israeli Interception of Gaza Flotilla

Greek Foreign Ministry confirms all 27 citizens aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla are unharmed, with consular assistance and safe repatriation underway.

Tensions continue over the international Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza, as Israeli forces have intercepted twenty of the 44 ships, while the remaining vessels press on despite repeated Israeli interventions. Among the intercepted vessels was the Greek ship Oxygen, which was carrying humanitarian aid and activists.

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has reassured the public that all 27 Greek citizens aboard the flotilla are safe, have not been subjected to violence, and will receive full consular support.

Greek Government Response

In an official statement, the MFA said it is closely monitoring developments and maintaining constant communication with the Greek embassy in Tel Aviv. The Greek ambassador will visit the location where the 27 citizens are being held. The ministry has engaged in repeated diplomatic démarches with Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of the Greek nationals.

A joint Greece-Italy statement was issued yesterday to coordinate consular assistance and appeal to the flotilla to accept an offer from the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem to safely deliver the aid to Gaza.

Next Steps

The Greek MFA confirmed that, once procedures are completed, the citizens will undergo registration, health checks, and then repatriation. The ministry emphasized that the safety of its citizens remains the top priority.
