4-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Pool Accident

A child remains intubated in intensive care at Thessaloniki’s Hippokration Hospital after being rescued from a swimming pool at a family home in northern Greece

A 4-year-old boy is fighting for his life after falling into a swimming pool at his grandfather’s home in Kastoria, northern Greece.

The child was found unconscious at the bottom of the pool after briefly escaping the attention of family members. His grandfather pulled him from the water and emergency services were immediately called.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Kastoria General Hospital, where doctors carried out prolonged resuscitation efforts and managed to restore his vital functions. He was then intubated and transferred late in the evening to Hippokration Hospital in Thessaloniki, accompanied by an ambulance and a police escort.

Doctors monitoring child’s condition

Doctors at the Thessaloniki hospital have carried out the necessary medical tests to assess how the child’s body is responding and will later evaluate his neurological condition.

The boy remains in the intensive care unit under close medical supervision.

According to local reports, the child had travelled to Greece from Russia with his mother for a holiday.
