A mild earthquake of a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale was recorded just before 21.00 (19.00 GMT) on Friday evening, with an epicenter inland from the coastal town of Eretria, which lies on west coast of the large island of Evia, just off the south-central Greece mainland.
The tremor was felt in parts of the greater Athens area, according to reports.
According to a revised measurement by the Athens Observatory’s Geodynamic Institute, the quake had a focal depth of 11.6 kilometers and was pinpointed at 10 kilometers east-northeast of Eretria – which is located close to the same-name city-state of antiquity.
Several aftershocks, in the low 2 Richter scale range were recorded immediately after the first tremor.
