Air Traffic Work Stoppage on August 28 in Greece

GATCA will stop work for 4 hours as part of a 24-hour strike declared on that day by the largest civil servants’ union, the Supreme Administration of Greek Civil Servants Trade Unions ADEDY.

Commercial flights in Greece will experience minor disruptions on Thursday, August 28, following the decision by the country’s air traffic control union, GATCA, to stop work for 4 hours as part of a 24-hour strike declared on that day by the largest civil servants’ union, the Supreme Administration of Greek Civil Servants Trade Unions ADEDY.

In a statement issued by the union’s leadership, during the 4-hour strike, the following flights will be served:

  • Flights overflying the Athens FIR.
  • Flights transporting Heads of State and Prime Ministers.
  • Flights of the Hellenic Air Force participating in operational missions and scheduled exercises.
  • Flights of aircraft experiencing unusual situations or in a state of emergency.
  • Medical (hospital) flights.
  • Humanitarian aid flights.
  • Flights of search and rescue aircraft.

ADEDY called on all civil servants to take part in the 24-hour strike, expressing its opposition to a bill to be introduced in the Parliament plenum for debate regarding stricter disciplinary law against employees. The country’s largest union claims the new legislation would “criminalize industrial, political, and social actions, effectively equating them with violations of the criminal penal code.”
