An arson attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, at a café located on Thiseos Avenue in Kallithea, a suburb of Athens. The fire caused significant damage to the building’s exterior and outdoor seating area.
According to initial reports, the incident took place shortly after 4 a.m., when unidentified individuals placed eight homemade incendiary devices (gas canisters) at the café’s entrance. The devices exploded, sparking a blaze that scorched the shopfront and furnishings.
Fire Quickly Contained
Firefighters arrived at the scene promptly and managed to bring the fire under control before it spread further. No injuries were reported.
Authorities discovered two unexploded gas canisters at the site, which have been sent to forensic laboratories for examination. Investigators hope they may contain fingerprints or DNA traces that could help identify the perpetrators.
Police have launched a preliminary investigation to determine the motives behind the attack and to track down those responsible. The business has not released a statement regarding the incident.
