Athens International Airport Delays Continue for 2nd Day

More than 266 domestic and international flights have been affected, with today’s delays averaging 30–40 minutes.

Delays continue for a second day at Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos,” disrupting the travel schedule of hundreds of travelers.

More than 266 domestic and international flights have been affected, with today’s delays averaging 30–40 minutes, while yesterday some exceeded two hours.

The disruption stems from air traffic controllers’ decision to reduce traffic management capacity, handling 28 flights per hour instead of 36. Controllers are requesting a meeting with the Ministry regarding the bill that would transform the Civil Aviation Authority into a legal entity under public law, as well as issues concerning overtime and pay.

According to airline and airport announcements, the restrictions have reduced available arrivals by about 25%, intensifying passenger frustration.

Since early morning, the scene at the Athens International Airport has been marked by long queues, tension, and frustration, with knock-on delays expected to continue throughout the day.

Airport authorities have advised passengers to contact their airlines for updates on their flights.
