Athens commuters can expect increased metro services this holiday season as the city prepares for festive shopping and events. The Athens Urban Transport Organization (STASY) announced plans to boost metro frequency on Sunday, 21 December, and Sunday, 28 December, when stores across the city will remain open.
To improve service, three additional train sets will operate on each of the three metro lines, reducing waiting times and easing congestion for passengers. STASY emphasized that the reinforcement is possible thanks to the support of its staff, ensuring smoother travel for thousands of residents and visitors.
Meanwhile, tram services on Line 7 (Asklipieio Voulas – Agia Triada Piraeus) will follow special schedules on Saturday, 20 December, to accommodate local festive events in Glyfada and Piraeus:
- From 17:00 to 18:00, the tram will run a shuttle between Palaiό Dimarcheio and SEF.
- From 18:00 until 01:00 on Sunday, 21 December, services will operate between Palaiό Dimarcheio and Agia Triada, running back and forth.
Passengers are advised to check schedules in advance and allow extra travel time during peak holiday hours.
