Athens Public Transport Changes on New Year’s Eve

Metro, tram, bus and trolley services in the Greek capital will operate on adjusted schedules on December 31, with earlier final departures across all lines

Athens will operate with modified public transport schedules on New Year’s Eve, as authorities introduce changes similar to those applied in previous years. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys in advance, as services will stop earlier than usual across the metro, tram, bus and trolley networks.

According to official announcements, the final metro and tram departures on Wednesday, December 31, will take place between late evening hours, depending on the line and direction. On Metro Line 1, which connects the port area with northern districts, the last trains will depart from the terminal stations at 10:20 p.m., with slightly later departures from central stations.

On Metro Lines 2 and 3, which serve key residential areas, the city center and the airport, the final departures from central hubs will take place shortly after 11:00 p.m., while the last airport-bound and city-bound services will run earlier in the evening.

Tram services will also conclude earlier than normal. On the coastal and city-center tram lines, final departures will take place between approximately 9:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m., depending on the route and transfer connections.

Bus and trolley services will begin withdrawing from service from 10:00 p.m., with all vehicles expected to return to depots by 11:00 p.m.
