Students at a public secondary school in the Kypseli district of Athens have occupied their school following a serious incident of violence that has shaken the local school community. The protest comes after a 16-year-old student allegedly attacked a 14-year-old classmate with a knife during a school break.
According to authorities, the incident took place inside the school courtyard during recess. The younger student was injured and taken to a children’s hospital to receive medical care. Her condition required treatment but she was conscious when transported.
Witnesses described a tense confrontation between the two girls before the attack. One student said the older girl was shouting before pulling a knife from her pocket and stabbing the victim in the abdomen and arm. Teachers intervened shortly afterward, while emergency medical services and police were called to the scene.
The 16-year-old was taken to the Attica Security Directorate to provide an explanation for the incident. Reports indicate that she had previously displayed problematic behavior at another school and had been detained by authorities on multiple occasions in the past.
Following the stabbing, students decided to occupy the school building in protest, demanding increased psychological support. They argue that the presence of a school psychologist only once a week is insufficient to address serious mental health and behavioral issues among students.
