A violent incident occurred Thursday morning in Ampelokipoi, a central district of Athens, when a man attacked two police officers with an axe, leaving one officer injured.
The officers arrived at a residence on Rostoviou Street around 9:30 a.m. to carry out an involuntary psychiatric hospitalization for the 35-year-old suspect. Upon arrival, the man reportedly reacted violently, striking one officer in the head. The injury has been described as superficial, and the officer was taken to the 401 Military Hospital for medical evaluation.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene, prompting authorities to launch a manhunt in the surrounding area. Police have warned that the individual is considered dangerous and are actively working to locate and apprehend him.
No other injuries have been reported, and the investigation is ongoing. Residents in the area have been urged to remain alert while law enforcement carries out the search.
