Another shocking incident of animal cruelty was reported this week, with a badly injured dog located near a village in extreme southwest Greece.
According to a local animal protection society in the area, the dog was bleeding profusely and had sustained numerous injuries. At first, volunteers believe the unfortunate animal had been shot, however, an examining veterinarian later determined that much of the hemorrhaging was from its rectum, most probably from a violently inserted object.
The animal’s wounds were stitched, and it was hooked up to IV drips, but still in critical condition, the animal protection group “Noiazomai” (I Care) said, in a press release.
The injured dog was spotted next to the Pyrgos-Kyparissia coastal highway, near the village of Epitalio (Elis prefecture).
An official complaint was filed with the local police precinct, with media reports on the day stating that a reward was being offered for information leading to the person or persons behind the heinous act.
Several reports of animal cruelty have been widely reported over the recent period in the country, although it’s unclear whether this phenomenon is rising or whether increased public sensitivity and social media have caused instances to be immediately publicized.
