Greek police have dismantled a cannabis plantation hidden in a gorge in Chania, Crete, arresting two men connected to the illegal operation.
The discovery was made when officers found a 28-year-old man guarding the plantation from a tent. According to police footage, he attempted to escape on foot as soon as he spotted officers approaching, but was immobilized within seconds after a short chase.

Inside his tent, police seized 438 grams of already dried cannabis, along with cultivation tools and supplies.
Plantation hidden in difficult terrain
The plantation was located in a remote gorge, carefully concealed along the riverbed and slopes. Authorities counted 180 cannabis plants, which were being irrigated through a hose system illegally connected to the municipal water network.

Later the same day, police tracked down a 41-year-old accomplice at a tourist resort. During his arrest, officers confiscated various ammunition rounds and four mobile phones.
Estimated street value
Police estimate the plantation could have yielded around 90 kilograms of cannabis, with an estimated street value exceeding €180,000.

Both men are facing charges related to drug cultivation and possession, while investigations continue into the extent of their operation.
