A cargo ship flying the flag of Barbados has run aground at the port of Mantoudi on the Greek island of Evia, after completing its loading operations on Monday morning.

According to local reports, the vessel became stuck in the sandy seabed shortly after being loaded with around 5,000 tons of magnesite. The ship, which had a 13-member crew on board, had been scheduled to set sail for Ireland.

Authorities confirmed that there have been no injuries and no signs of marine pollution following the incident.

Coast Guard officers remain at the site, examining the circumstances that led to the grounding and assessing safe options to free the vessel.
