Ceiling Collapses at Primary School in Palaio Faliro

Part of the ceiling fell inside the school’s bathrooms during class hours, narrowly avoiding injuries, as a parent accuses local authorities of ignoring repeated maintenance requests

Part of a ceiling collapsed inside a primary school in the Athens suburb of Palaio Faliro during school hours, sparking concern among parents but causing no injuries.

The incident occurred in the bathrooms of the 1st Primary School of Palaio Faliro while classes were underway. According to reports, sections of plaster fell suddenly from the ceiling. At the time, three students — including a third-grade boy — were inside the restroom. The children were reportedly frightened, but none were hurt.

Parent Raises Safety Concerns

The incident was brought to light through a named complaint by Anna Kokkori, the mother of one of the students who was present when the ceiling gave way. Speaking to local media, she said the collapse happened without warning, terrifying the children inside.

Kokkori, who is also a member of the school’s parents’ association, criticized the municipal authorities, accusing them of failing to address long-standing maintenance issues at the school.

“We have sent countless messages to the municipality requesting maintenance and repairs to the school buildings, and the only response we have received has been promises and vague assurances. These are the results,” she said in her complaint.
