A coast guard patrol was seen in the unflattering position of having run aground a jetty at the entrance of the port of Volos, in central Greece.
According to the coast guard’s command, the incident did not include any report of injuries.
As expected, an investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident, as well as an operation to extricate the craft from the jetty.
According to local media, the vessel was scheduled to depart for the nearby island of Skiathos to transport a well-known religious icon – the Lady of Eikonistria / Panaghia Eikonistria – that has been reverently conveyed to the mainland for veneration by the faithful in a Volos-area cathedral.
