Greece is bracing for a sharp change in weather starting Friday, as temperatures are forecast to drop by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, marking the arrival of a prolonged autumn pattern.
Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafilias noted that the so-called “Rex blocking” system will push cooler air into the region. By next week, daytime highs are not expected to exceed 24–25°C, making a jacket necessary during the morning and evening hours.
Strong northerly winds will also sweep the Aegean on Friday and Saturday, reaching up to 8 on the Beaufort scale.
Weekend Storms in the West
The most severe weather is expected between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, with powerful thunderstorms predicted across western Greece. If heavy rainfall does not fall offshore, forecasters warn of possible flooding and landslides in parts of the western and central Peloponnese, the Ionian islands, and Aetolia-Acarnania.
By Sunday and Monday, rain will extend to the rest of mainland Greece and Crete, though in these areas showers are expected to be beneficial and largely harmless.
Limited Impact Elsewhere
Regions such as Attica, Thrace, and the Aegean islands are expected to experience little to no impact from the incoming weather system.
