The body of a 72-year-old man, originally from Germany and residing in Crete for several years, was recovered from the sea on Sunday morning at the Agios Nikolaos Marina.
According to reports, citizens first discovered the body and immediately alerted the local Coast Guard authorities.
Incident Linked to Alcohol Consumption
Sources indicate that the man had gone out on Friday night and consumed a significant amount of alcohol. On his way back to his boat, he appears to have lost his balance and fallen into the water, tragically losing his life.
Coast Guard divers retrieved the body, which has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
