A double stabbing in the resort town of Loutraki, due west of Athens, overnight on Friday has left one 17-year-old dead and another adult teen, 19, injured, setting in motion a major crimes investigation.
Police were taking testimony and gathering information hours later, with initial speculation pointing to a deadly “rumble” between rival groups of teens along a ring road leading into the small coastal city.
The victim was declared DOA at a nearby public hospital in Corinth, while the 19-year-old first sought medical attention at the same unit before departing for an Athens hospital in a private vehicle. He sustained serious injuries to the abdominal area and required surgery.
Authorities believe they will be ready to identify a suspect or suspects in a matter of hours, with one alleged perpetrator already cited.
In a later development, police arrested a suspect, aged 17, believed to be the perpetrator.
