Driver Caught at 209 km/h on Thessaloniki Ring Road

The 30-year-old was stopped during a road safety operation after allegedly driving more than 120 km/h above the speed limit, leading to a hefty fine, a one-year license suspension and criminal charges

A 30-year-old driver has been arrested in Thessaloniki after being caught travelling at 209 km/h on a section of road where the speed limit is 80 km/h, authorities said.

The incident occurred on the city’s ring road near the Evosmos area during a road safety enforcement operation carried out by traffic police in the early hours of the morning.

According to police, speed cameras recorded the vehicle travelling at more than 200 km/h, exceeding the legal limit by 129 km/h. Officers subsequently stopped and arrested the driver.

The man was issued a €2,000 fine and had his driving license suspended for one year. Authorities also filed criminal charges against him for dangerous driving.
