The Evangelismos Metro station in Athens has been temporarily closed since Wednesday morning, September 24, due to a technical fault.
According to the operator STASY, the issue involved a malfunction in an escalator that led to the release of smoke within the station.
Trains Bypass the Station
While the station remains closed, metro trains continue to pass through Evangelismos without stopping. Passengers have reported a strong smell of burning and alarms sounding loudly inside the station.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the malfunction and are working to restore normal operation as soon as possible. Commuters are advised to use alternative nearby stations until the situation is resolved.
