A severe wildfire continues to rage across the Greek island of Chios, leaving firefighters and local residents in urgent need of assistance. The fire, which has consumed an estimated 9884 acres, has caused significant property damage, including the destruction of homes and vehicles.

A powerful photograph shared on social media by the account Fire Fighting Greece shows a group of exhausted firefighters lying in the middle of a road, capturing the immense physical toll of battling the flames. The caption simply reads: “No words.”

Authorities have issued evacuation orders for residents in affected areas, including the village of Kampia, following repeated alerts from Greece’s 112 emergency system.

By early Wednesday morning, seven residents suffering from respiratory issues were transported to Chios General Hospital “Skylitseio,” while ten firefighters received first aid on-site for breathing difficulties and minor burns.

Rescue teams have also saved at least 56 people from the beaches of Limnia and Agia Markella in Volissos, highlighting the ongoing danger to both residents and visitors.

Local officials, including Constantine Michalopoulos, Chios Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection, confirmed that the fire has caused extensive destruction across the island. Firefighters continue to battle the blaze under challenging conditions, with recovery efforts still underway.
