Extreme Wildfire Risk Issued for Rhodes, Samos and Ikaria

Authorities urge caution as fire danger level reaches Category 4 on Sunday, with civil protection services on high alert across the affected islands

Greece’s Civil Protection Authority has issued a Category 4 (very high) wildfire risk warning for Sunday, August 24, covering the islands of Rhodes, Samos and Ikaria.

According to the official Fire Risk Forecast Map, the warning applies to parts of both the North and South Aegean, with regional and municipal authorities placed on heightened alert to respond immediately to any potential incidents.

Civil Protection on Standby

The Civil Protection Authority announced that all relevant state services have been informed and remain in readiness to handle emergencies. Local authorities in the affected areas have also been instructed to increase vigilance.

Advice to the Public

Residents and visitors are urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid activities that could accidentally spark a blaze. These include burning dry grass or branches, using equipment that produces sparks such as welding tools or angle grinders, lighting outdoor barbecues, smoking beehives, or discarding lit cigarettes.

Authorities also remind the public that burning fields is strictly prohibited during the fire season. Anyone spotting a fire should immediately contact the Fire Service by dialing 199.
