Greek authorities have dismantled a network of schools that issued fraudulent academic certificates and diplomas, generating millions in illegal profits. Six schools across Attica, Chania, and Ioannina were implicated in the scheme, which targeted adult education students.
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) conducted inspections under a prosecutor’s order, revealing that the schools provided certificates and diplomas that were not recognized by the official Certification Service of the Ministry of Education. The total illegal earnings from these activities between 2024 and the day of inspection amounted to €3.2 million.
Tax violations uncovered
Auditors also discovered extensive tax fraud. Between 2020 and 2026, the schools issued more than 10,000 tax invoices with inaccurate revenue amounts, concealing €1.8 million in VAT.
Six individuals, including the administrators and managers of the schools, were arrested on charges of felony fraud and tax evasion. They have been referred to judicial authorities under immediate arrest procedures.
