A large-scale farmer protest took place Monday night in the city of Larissa, as agricultural workers rallied with their tractors in a show of force through the city’s main streets. The demonstration culminated in the central square, where tractors remained stationed as part of the ongoing protest.
The demonstration included farmers, livestock breeders, and beekeepers from several surrounding towns and villages, including Tyrnavos, Ampelonas, Falani, Nessonas, Amfithea, Koulouri, and Elassona.
The mobilization was sparked by growing frustration over the government’s handling of agricultural issues, particularly concerns related to a scandal involving OPEKEPE, Greece’s Payment and Control Agency for Guidance and Guarantee Community Aid, as well as the outbreak of sheep and goat pox affecting flocks in the region.
Protesters aimed to send a strong and visible message to the government, demanding action and support. According to local news outlet onlarissa.gr, tractors moved in convoy formation from the outskirts of Larissa into the city center, drawing attention from both residents and authorities.
