A deadly stabbing occurred in the early hours of Sunday outside a well-known nightclub in the Bournazi district of Athens, claiming the life of a 37-year-old Bulgarian man. The victim suffered a fatal knife wound to the abdomen.

The incident unfolded shortly after 3:30 a.m., when the man, who was inside the club with a female companion, was approached by an individual reportedly known to him. The suspect asked the victim to step outside for a conversation. Initially refusing, the 37-year-old eventually followed him.

Collapsed inside the club

Moments later, the suspect allegedly stabbed the man outside the club entrance. Bleeding heavily, the victim managed to return inside seeking help before collapsing in front of shocked onlookers.

Emergency services quickly arrived, transporting him to the General State Hospital of Nikaia, where doctors attempted to save him. Despite their efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have leads

Police cordoned off the area while investigators from the Homicide Division collected witness statements and reviewed CCTV footage from the club and nearby establishments. Authorities report they have a clear image of the suspect and are exploring whether the killing was linked to personal disputes or score-settling.

The 37-year-old was reportedly known to authorities, with past involvement in serious crimes, including homicide and weapons offenses. He had previously served time in Larissa Prison. Officials are examining whether his history or ties to organized crime and unresolved conflicts may have played a role in the fatal attack.
