Hospitality and catering services across Greece are expected to face significant disruptions on June 24, following the announcement of a 24-hour nationwide strike by the Panhellenic Federation of Food and Tourism Workers (POEET).
The announcement comes as Greece prepares to welcome millions of travelers for the summer tourism season.
The union is demanding higher wages, improved working conditions, and strengthened health and safety inspections across the sector.
According to POEET, a detailed list of demands will be finalized in the coming days after a committee conducts workplace visits nationwide. However, it has already reiterated key priorities, including inflation-linked pay adjustments, the renewal of collective labor agreements for tourism and catering workers, and urgent improvements in workplace safety standards.
The strike announcement comes amid growing concern over occupational safety in Greece, following a series of fatal workplace accidents in recent weeks.
In February, F&B workers also staged a nationwide strike and rallies in Athens, citing similar demands. That mobilization followed the deadly explosion at the Violanta biscuit manufacturing plant, which killed five female workers and intensified calls for stricter enforcement of safety regulations.
