Ferry Departures Halted at Greek Ports Due to Gale-Force Winds

Authorities are expected to reassess conditions at 10 a.m., when a new decision on whether to lift or extend the sailing ban will be issued

Sailings from Piraeus, Lavrio and Rafina were suspended on Friday morning after authorities imposed a sailing ban due to severe winds sweeping across much of Greece.

The restriction affects most early ferry routes, with exceptions made for services to the Saronic Gulf islands from Piraeus and routes from Rafina to Marmari.

According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, winds are reaching 7 to 8 Beaufort across the Aegean and locally climbing to 9 Beaufort, creating hazardous sea conditions. In western regions, winds are blowing from the east at 3 to 5 Beaufort, temporarily reaching 6 in the Ionian Sea before shifting north later in the day.

Authorities are expected to reassess conditions at 10 a.m., when a new decision on whether to lift or extend the sailing ban will be issued.

Travelers are advised to stay in contact with ferry operators for updates as delays and cancellations remain possible throughout the day.
