Fire Breaks Out at Athens Hospital

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire while ensuring that the rest of the hospital remains operational. The “Sotiria” Hospital is one of Greece’s most prominent medical facilities, and the rapid evacuation is credited with preventing further escalation

A fire broke out on Friday at the “Sotiria” Hospital in Athens, prompting the evacuation of its pathology department.

According to initial reports, the blaze started in a small area on the first floor, within the hospital’s pathology unit. The department was promptly cleared as a precaution, and no injuries have been reported so far.

A large-scale response was immediately launched by the Hellenic Fire Service, with 30 firefighters, 12 fire engines, and specialised equipment — including an aerial ladder truck — deployed to the scene to contain the incident.
