A wildfire broke out on Tuesday afternoon in Paiania, a suburb of Athens, prompting a rapid response from the fire department. The fire ignited in low vegetation on Agias Marinas Street and posed a threat to a nearby company.
Authorities dispatched 35 firefighters with 15 vehicles, along with two airplanes and two helicopters to tackle the blaze from the air. Additional support came from local water trucks and construction machinery.
Fire crews are focusing on containing the fire perimeter to prevent it from spreading to residential areas and the nearby Mount Hymettus.
The 112 emergency alert system sent a message to residents around 16:30, advising them to remain vigilant. Meanwhile, local police implemented traffic restrictions, including a closure of Palaio Panagia Avenue from Anoixeos Street onward, to ensure safety and facilitate firefighting operations.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the importance of public caution as efforts to control the wildfire continue.
