A passenger vessel caught fire this morning near the port of Agios Nikolaos Volimonas on the Greek island of Zakynthos, prompting an immediate evacuation.
The blaze began in the ship’s engine room and was quickly noticed when thick smoke poured from the ventilation ducts. The captain and crew swiftly alerted the 167 passengers on board, ensuring their safe and orderly evacuation.
All passengers were transferred to shore without injury. The vessel was later towed to the port of Agios Nikolaos with assistance from the Hellenic Coast Guard.
Authorities have not yet released information on the cause of the fire, but no casualties or injuries were reported.
