Five-Year-Old Child Drowns in Hotel Pool in Santorini

A five-year-old child from India drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Santorini, on Saturday, as authorities investigate the circumstances of the tragic accident

A five-year-old child from India tragically drowned on Saturday in a hotel swimming pool in Kamari, Santorini. According to initial reports, the child was at the pool area with their parents, who did not immediately realize that the child had fallen into the water.

When they noticed what had happened, they pulled the child out unconscious. A doctor who was among other hotel guests at the pool rushed to administer first aid, using a defibrillator available on-site, while an ambulance—already on its way—arrived at the scene about seven minutes later. Despite efforts to revive the child, it was too late. The child was taken to Thira Hospital, where doctors confirmed the death.

Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the tragedy. According to reports, the hotel’s manager, the pool supervisor, and the child’s father have been arrested as part of the legal process.

Under Greek law, swimming pools with a depth of up to 1.5 meters are not required to have a lifeguard on duty, but a staff member trained in first aid must be present during operating hours.
