Members of the fire brigade on Thursday – Holy Friday in predominantly Orthodox Christian Greece – rescued a small fox trapped inside an open-air reservoir near the south-central city of Lamia and struggling to stay above the murky water.
As shown on a video posted by local media, the animal had fallen into a water reservoir and was trying to escape, struggling to stay afloat and at serious risk of drowning.
During a scheduled inspection, two fire-fighters spotted the fox and realized it was in danger.
Without wasting any time, they immediately mobilized and, together with two other colleagues from Lamia who rushed to the scene, began efforts to rescue the animal.
The fox was safely retrieved from the water tank and released into the wild.
