A 38-year-old French woman was seriously injured in a kitesurfing accident at the Ammoudara Beach, near Heraklion (Iraklio), Crete, and was taken to a local hospital, where she remains hospitalized.
According to local news website patris.gr, the woman was kitesurfing when she was swept up by strong winds under circumstances that remain under investigation.
The woman was reportedly thrown against a wall before being lifted by the wind again and landing on the rooftop of a building.
The local port authority is conducting a preliminary investigation into the incident and the precise circumstances of the accident.
No Injuries Reported After Vessels Collide at Skiathos Port
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a sea taxi berthed at Skiathos port collided with the passenger-car ferry Nisos Aegina on Monday as the ferry was entering the port. No injuries were reported.
According to the coast guard, 68 passengers were aboard the ferry boat, which was carrying 17 cars and six motorcycles. There were no passengers aboard the sea taxi Mitera Panagia at the time of the collision.
The ferry was operating its scheduled route from Glossa on the nearby island of Skopelos to Skiathos and Mantoudi on the island of Evia.
No marine pollution was reported following the collision, and no injuries were recorded.
