A 60-year-old gas station owner was hospitalized Thursday after reportedly shooting himself in the head at his business in Haidari, a western suburb of Athens.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. The man was reportedly on the first floor of the gas station when he shot himself with a firearm under circumstances that remain unclear.
A 43-year-old employee at the business alerted the National Center for Emergency Assistance and police. The employee intervened after the shooting and helped ensure that the injured man received medical attention. She remains in shock following the incident.
The injured man was transported by ambulance to Attikon Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
According to the available information, he was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.
