Greece Launches Fuel Pass Payments for Millions of Vehicle Owners

Nearly 3.1 million Greeks to receive digital fuel cards next month, offering up to €60 in subsidies for gas, public transport, and taxis

The Greek government is set to begin payments under its expanded Fuel Pass program, providing financial support to nearly 3.1 million vehicle owners across the country. The initiative, designed to offset rising fuel costs, will issue digital fuel cards that can be used at gas stations, public transport, and taxis.

The platform for applications is expected to open next week, with the first payments scheduled for the first ten days of April, according to Minister Thanos Petralias.

Who qualifies

Eligible recipients include Greek tax residents with family incomes up to:

  • €25,000 for singles
  • €35,000 for married couples
  • An additional €5,000 per dependent child

Single-parent households can receive support if their income is up to €39,000, with an extra €5,000 per child beyond the first.

How it works

The subsidy will be delivered through a digital card, with the option for a direct bank deposit for those unable to use a smartphone. Applicants must declare a vehicle they either co-own or lease long-term, which must be legally registered, insured, and with no outstanding fees. Each person can claim support for only one vehicle.

Subsidy amounts

For cars:

  • Mainland: €50 with a digital card (€40 without) for two months
  • Islands: €60 with a digital card (€50 without) for two months

For motorcycles:

  • Mainland: €30 with card (€25 without)
  • Islands: €35 with card (€30 without)

The total budget for this round of Fuel Pass support is €130 million, aiming to ease the burden of fuel expenses for a broad segment of Greek households.
