New Dismissal Times for Primary, Kindergarten Schools in Greece

The flexible timetables aim to support families and students. Parents must choose dismissal slots for the upcoming school year.

Primary and kindergarten schools across Greece will operate with new dismissal times, the Education Ministry announced ahead of the new school year which kicks off on September 11.

The new schedule applies to full-day public schools and aims to strengthen the educational process while offering greater support to families.

Under the revised program, primary school students enrolled in full-day classes can finish at 2:55 p.m., 3:50 p.m., or 5:30 p.m., depending on the option chosen by parents or guardians at the start of the school year. Parents will be required to declare their preferred dismissal time in writing and commit to it.

For kindergartens, the dismissal times are also staggered: 4:00 p.m. for Unified Full-Day Kindergartens and 5:30 p.m. for Upgraded Full-Day Kindergartens.

The ministry said the changes are part of broader efforts to create a more flexible and family-friendly school environment.

Meanwhile, ahead of the new school year, the government announced that 431 public schools had been renovated. On Monday, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited a school in Zografou, where he highlighted the upgrades as a step toward “a more dynamic and inclusive educational experience for students and teachers alike.”
