Greece Returns Winter Hours for Dual-Rate Electricity Billing

From November 1, consumers can access lower electricity rates during off-peak hours under the seasonal dual-rate system, which will remain in effect until March 31, 2026

Greece will reintroduce winter hours for its dual-rate electricity billing system starting Saturday, November 1, the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) announced. The seasonal schedule will remain in effect until March 31, 2026.

The dual-rate system, first implemented in February 2025, is designed to allow households and businesses to access cheaper electricity during off-peak hours.

Under the winter schedule:

  • Midday zone: 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Night zone: 2:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.

Consumers are encouraged to shift energy-intensive activities to these hours to take advantage of the reduced rates, a measure intended to optimize electricity usage and reduce bills.

Since its introduction, the dual-rate system has aimed to balance energy demand while providing financial relief to consumers by promoting electricity use when the grid is less strained.
