The Greek Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) is moving ahead with a significant upgrade to its airport fire and rescue services, announcing the acquisition of 18 new state-of-the-art fire trucks.
Each vehicle has a capacity of 4,500 liters and is fully equipped with modern rescue gear, aiming to strengthen emergency response across the airports under the Authority’s management.
The vehicles will be delivered in phases through 2027, with the procurement budget reaching 14.73 million euros. Alongside the equipment investment, the Authority is also preparing to expand its workforce, launching additional recruitments for driver-firefighters.
The tender, published on the National Electronic Public Procurement System, will be conducted through an open international electronic competition, in line with EU and national legislation, approved specifications, and operational needs.
In parallel, a new call is expected in the coming weeks for 75 fixed-term driver-firefighters, who will staff firefighting and rescue units at 18 regional airports managed by the HCAA, including Kastellorizo, Kasos, Leros, Milos, Naxos, Syros, Astypalea, Ikaria, Kastoria, Kythera, Kalymnos, Kozani, Alexandroupoli, Chios, Ioannina, Karpathos, Paros, and Sitia in Crete.
Commenting on the initiative, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas underlined the government’s commitment: “Further strengthening aviation safety remains a steady priority for the Government.”
