Greece faces a sharp weather downturn this Sunday, October 19, as the National Meteorological Service (EMY) warns of heavy rain and localized storms across the country. Temperatures will dip, and strong showers are expected, with winds blowing predominantly from the east.
In Athens cloudy skies with showers areexpected throughout the day. Temperatures will range from 15°C to 21°C, with variable winds at 3–4 Beaufort. Residents should prepare for wet conditions, particularly in the afternoon and evening.
Thessaloniki will be partly cloudy with brief spells of rain possible. Temperatures will range between 14°C and 20°C, with intermittent cloud cover and lighter winds.

- Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea, Western Peloponnese: Rain and storms intensifying from the afternoon, particularly in the southern Ionian and western Peloponnese; temperatures 14–22°C.
- Thessaly, Eastern Sterea, Euboea, Eastern Peloponnese: Cloudy with scattered showers; northeast winds 3–4 Beaufort; temperatures up to 23°C.
- Cyclades & Crete: Cloud cover increasing with rain in the Cyclades and heavier showers in Crete from midday; temperatures up to 25°C.
- Eastern Aegean & Dodecanese: Cloudy with localized showers, especially in the northern islands; temperatures up to 25°C.
Meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas described the rainfall as “nourishing and a blessing from above,” while noting that, in the background, the “Little Summer” is expected on Agios Dimitrios (Saint Demetrius) on October 26. He specifically mentioned that weather conditions will start to improve from Friday, October 24, with sunnier skies especially over the weekend, while the forecast for Greece’s national day, October 28, remains uncertain.
