Greece Weather Forecast for Christmas Eve: Rain and Storms

Rain and isolated thunderstorms spread across much of Greece on Wednesday, with stronger southeast winds in the Ionian Sea, limited visibility at times, and little change in temperatures nationwide.

Unsettled weather is expected across Greece on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, as cloud cover increases and rain spreads across much of the country throughout the day. Conditions may affect holiday travel, particularly by sea and in mountainous areas.

Rain and localized thunderstorms will begin in western regions, including the Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Central Greece, and the Peloponnese, before gradually extending to most parts of the country. In the Ionian Sea, and locally in Evia and the Sporades, storms may be briefly intense. Snowfall is expected in mountainous areas of Macedonia and Epirus. Visibility may be locally reduced during the morning and evening hours, especially in inland areas.

Temperatures will remain seasonally mild with no significant changes. Northern Greece will see values between 2°C and 12°C, with Western Macedonia ranging from 0°C to 7°C. Central and southern mainland regions will range from 7°C to 15°C. Western Greece will be milder, with temperatures between 11°C and 17°C, while Epirus will range from 5°C to 12°C. The Cyclades will see temperatures from 8°C to 17°C, Crete from 11°C to 19°C, the eastern Aegean islands from 7°C to 16°C, and the Dodecanese from 12°C to 17°C.

Winds in the northern Aegean will blow from the east at moderate strength, reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort. In the rest of the Aegean, southeast winds will be light to near-moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea, southeast winds will strengthen to 4 to 5 Beaufort, briefly reaching 6 Beaufort during the morning before gradually easing.

In Attica and Athens, cloud cover will increase, with rain and isolated thunderstorms expected after midday. Visibility may be locally limited during the early morning and evening. Temperatures will range from 9°C to 16°C, slightly cooler in northern areas, with light southerly winds becoming near-moderate in southern parts.

In Thessaloniki, periods of increased cloudiness with rain are expected. Temperatures will range from 8°C to 11°C. Moderate easterly winds over the Thermaic Gulf will gradually shift to northwest directions later in the day, weakening slightly.
