Greece will see a shift from mild instability this weekend to more settled, spring-like weather during the early days of Holy Week, according to the latest forecasts.
After scattered showers and isolated storms on Saturday, conditions are expected to gradually improve from Palm Sunday, with sunshine and warmer temperatures dominating across much of the country from Monday onward.
Unsettled Saturday with scattered storms
On Saturday, April 4, weather conditions will remain mildly unstable across large parts of the country, with intervals of sunshine and increased cloud cover bringing localized rain.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible during the warmer hours of the day, particularly in regions of northern and central Greece, parts of the Peloponnese, and several island groups, including the Cyclades, eastern Aegean islands, and Crete. These phenomena are expected to weaken later in the afternoon.
Winds will blow from the north to northwest at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching 6, while temperatures will edge slightly higher, reaching 61–64°F (16–18°C) and locally up to 66°F (19°C).
In Athens, clouds will alternate with sunshine, with showers and possible isolated storms mainly around midday and in the afternoon. In Thessaloniki, similar conditions are expected, with localized showers and a chance of storms in nearby mountainous areas.
Palm Sunday brings gradual improvement
On Palm Sunday, April 5, temporary cloud cover and scattered rain will persist in parts of central and southern Greece, including Thessaly, eastern mainland regions, and southern island areas.
However, from the afternoon onward, conditions will steadily improve, starting from northern regions. Rain will gradually become confined mainly to Crete, while the rest of the country will see increasing sunshine with only occasional cloud buildup and brief local showers inland.
Temperatures will continue to rise slightly, reaching 63–66°F (17–19°C) in most areas and up to 70°F (21°C) in western and northern regions.
Sunny and warmer start to Holy Week
By Holy Monday, April 6, the weather will turn mostly clear across nearly the entire country, marking a clear transition to spring conditions.
Only limited cloud cover is expected in Crete, the Dodecanese, and parts of western and northern mainland Greece, where brief, localized showers may occur during the afternoon.
Winds will remain moderate from northern directions, while temperatures will rise further, especially across mainland areas and the Ionian Sea.
Spring pattern expected through midweek
The first days of Holy Week are expected to remain largely sunny and mild, with stable weather conditions continuing through at least Holy Wednesday.
Forecast models suggest a possible drop in temperatures later in the week, but details remain uncertain. For now, the outlook points to favorable weather for travel and outdoor activities during the early part of the Easter period.
