In a chilling development that has stunned Greece, 25-year-old Eirini (Irini) Mourtzoukou has confessed to the deaths of three infants — two of whom were her own children — and the killing of her infant sister over a decade ago.
Mourtzoukou, who was arrested yesterday, July 8, in connection with a string of suspicious infant deaths in Amaliada, western Greece, admitted during questioning that she was responsible for all four fatalities.
According to sources close to the investigation, her confession included disturbing details that have shocked even seasoned investigators.
The case has rapidly become one of the most harrowing criminal investigations in recent Greek history.
Mourtzoukou reportedly told authorities that she killed her 18-month-old sister in February 2014, when she herself was just 14 years old. The girl’s death, which occurred in Argos, had initially been attributed to interstitial pneumonitis, a form of lung inflammation.
As for the infants, the suspect claimed that the death of her second child was accidental — stating that she suffocated the baby in her sleep. However, she admitted to intentionally killing the other two infants. The murders reportedly took place on June 19, 2022, and October 17, 2023. A third baby, who died in February 2021, was the child of a friend.

Mourtzoukou is also facing charges for the attempted murder of another woman, a friend she allegedly tried to strangle in 2020.
She is currently being transferred to Patras, in western Greece, to appear before an investigating magistrate, where she is expected to request time to prepare her formal testimony.
