Severe winter weather has hit the municipality of Mouzaki in central Greece, with heavy snowfall creating difficult conditions in mountainous areas and prompting safety warnings from local authorities.
According to an official announcement by the Municipality of Mouzaki, snow depth in elevated parts of the region has exceeded 30 centimetres, particularly beyond a key mountain junction. The intense snowfall has raised concerns about road safety and access in higher-altitude areas.
Municipal crews, working in coordination with the regional authorities of Thessaly, are operating around the clock to clear snow from the road network. Their goal is to keep main routes open and ensure safe traffic conditions despite the ongoing weather event.
Guidelines for Residents
Local authorities have issued a series of recommendations to residents, urging caution during the severe weather. Drivers are advised to carry snow chains at all times, especially when traveling in mountainous areas. Citizens are also encouraged to avoid non-essential travel and strictly follow instructions issued by emergency and civil protection services.
The municipality, along with the deputy mayor responsible for civil protection, stressed that unnecessary movement should be avoided for the duration of the snowfall, as conditions may remain hazardous.
