A serious prison assault occurred at Trikala Prison on Wednesday around midday, when an Afghan inmate serving a life sentence stabbed a Greek prisoner six times with a homemade knife.
Attack Details
The attack reportedly took place just minutes before the victim was due to be transferred to another correctional facility. According to local media, the assailant told staff he wanted to “leave his farewell” as he attacked.
The assault occurred inside the prison wing, while a correctional officer was closing the area for a routine midday count, putting the officer at risk of being harmed during the incident.
Victim Hospitalized
The injured prisoner was immediately transported to Trikala Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries. Officials report he is in serious but stable condition.
