‘Joy Ride’ Fatality Reported in East Attica Township

One of the passengers, 15, was killed in a one-vehicle collision when the driver, also 15, crashed; trio had taken the car keys without parents' knowledge

An all-too-common but often tragic occurrence – a teenager taking a parent’s car without their knowledge – played out on Friday in the seaside resort town of Artemida (Loutsa), east of Athens proper, with one 15-year-old passenger dying in a single-vehicle collision with a tree.

The car was seen erratically speeding down a residential street, first strike a curb and then plowing into a large tree.

Another two teens in the car, including the underage driver, were injured.

The juveniles reportedly took the older model vehicle’s keys without permission, and without the 15-year-old driving possessing a driver’s license. Eyewitnesses reported that the latter was in a state of shock after the collision. Both the juvenile driver and the other teen passenger sustained only minor injuries.
