Authorities in Greece have announced emergency safety measures following recent landslides at Myrtos Beach on the island of Kefalonia, one of the country’s best-known coastal destinations.
The landslides occurred several days ago on a steep section of the cliff overlooking the beach, prompting officials to assess the potential risks to visitors.
Greece’s Civil Protection Risk Assessment Committee convened to evaluate the situation and determine the necessary steps to safeguard the public.
Following the meeting, authorities decided to immediately implement recommendations made by scientific experts. Guidance will also be issued to the Civil Protection services of the Ionian Islands region, as well as the local municipalities responsible for the area.
Officials said additional measures will be considered at a later stage, depending on the needs identified in each affected location.
